Interim Kitara President, ASP Gilbert Nyaika, has vowed to lead the club into a new era of ambition and silverware.
Speaking to NBS Sport, Nyaika laid out his vision to turn Kitara into a title-winning side, saying fans should expect a team that plays to win, not just participate.
A familiar figure within the club’s leadership, Nyaika takes over from Deo Kasozi, whose tenure saw Kitara rise from the FUFA Big League to the Uganda Premier League, win the Uganda Cup, and lay the foundation for a competitive squad and improved infrastructure.
“It’s been a challenging period. Many people have high expectations, especially since I’m stepping in after an exceptional leader like Deo Kasozi,” Nyaika said.
“But I’ve been part of this from the beginning. I served as Vice President in charge of admissions, so I know the system and I’m not starting from scratch.”
Nyaika, who also works as a Community Liaison Officer at Katwe Police Station, says sports has always been close to his heart.
“Before I became a police officer, I was already a sportsman,” he said. “I played football, basketball, and I support teams like UCU Lady Canons, Kampala Boys Rugby Club, and Brown Boxing Club.”
Now at the helm of Kitara, he wants to transform his passion into progress.
“For the past two seasons, we’ve come close. This time, we’re setting up a very strong side to push for the title.”
