Arsenal’s highly-anticipated £60 million signing, Martin Zubimendi, is set to make his public debut for the Gunners today against AC Milan in Singapore.
The 26-year-old Spanish international, a key figure in Spain’s Euro 2024 win, was pursued by Arsenal for a year in a “really well-orchestrated plan,” according to manager Mikel Arteta.
Arteta confirmed Zubimendi’s role as a number six, praising his impressive ability to “capture and process information” on the pitch.
Zubimendi, who turned down Liverpool last summer, cited Arteta’s “obsession” with “details” as a major reason for choosing Arsenal, expressing his desire to learn and contribute balance to the midfield.
His arrival, alongside Christian Norgaard, will heighten competition in Arsenal’s midfield, a prospect welcomed by teammate Mikel Merino.
Merino emphasized the importance of a strong, deep squad for navigating a long season and potential injuries.
Zubimendi hopes to be a catalyst for trophy success, stating that learning from previous seasons’ close calls will be “key to getting even closer to this year’s targets.”
