Rasheedat Ajibade has been named the TotalEnergies WAFCON 2024 Best Player, a fitting honor after she captained Nigeria’s Super Falcons to their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
The 25-year-old was instrumental in guiding Nigeria to victory. From the tournament’s start, Ajibade, known for her vibrant blue hair, displayed exceptional leadership and unwavering determination.
Before the competition, she promised herself Nigeria would lift the new WAFCON trophy, a vow she relentlessly pursued.
Ajibade’s influence was felt on and off the pitch. She provided crucial sparks, making key passes and dictating the tempo of games.
Her standout performances earned her three Woman of the Match awards against Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa. She also scored once, converting a penalty against South Africa. This marks her second WAFCON award, having previously been the Joint Top Scorer in 2022.
With two WAFCON titles and individual accolades, Ajibade has cemented her legacy. The victory also served as sweet revenge for Nigeria, who were eliminated by Morocco in the 2022 semi-finals.
