Liverpool remembered the late Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, in an emotional tribute before their pre-season matches against Athletic Bilbao.
Jota, 28, and his brother died in a car crash in Spain in July.
In a poignant pre-game ceremony, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson and Athletic president Jon Uriarte laid wreaths on the pitch.
The stadium billboards displayed a heartfelt message: “Rest in Peace Diogo Jota and Andre Silva – You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Fans held banners and sang songs for Jota, and both games were paused in the 20th minute for a minute of applause, honoring Jota’s retired number 20 shirt.
In his program notes, manager Arne Slot said, “We will always carry him with us in our hearts.”
Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.
The team will open their Premier League season at Anfield on August 15 against Bournemouth.
