Arsenal’s new £64 million striker, Viktor Gyokeres, made his highly anticipated debut at the Emirates Stadium in a 3-2 pre-season friendly loss to Villarreal.
The 27-year-old Swede, who joined from Sporting, played for an hour to build fitness before the Premier League season begins.
Despite not scoring, Gyokeres showed promising signs, and manager Mikel Arteta expressed confidence in his readiness for the season opener.
“He will be 100% or more,” Arteta stated, highlighting the striker’s willingness and confidence.
The manager believes the friendly was a crucial step in building team chemistry and fitness after a two-month break from training.
Gyokeres is expected to get more minutes in Arsenal’s next friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
