Kyaka Dominate Mwenge South to Take Semi-Final Advantage

Kyaka County seized control of their MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup semi-final with a resounding 3-0 first-leg win over defending champions Mwenge South on Sunday.

Midfielder Fred Tumusiime, returning from suspension, lit up the contest with a brace that set the tone for Kyaka’s commanding display. He opened the scoring in the first half before striking again in the 66th minute to seal the victory. In between, striker Jonathan Kisaku Moses found the net in the 53rd minute, underlining Kyaka’s attacking dominance.

The result gives Kyaka a strong platform as they push for a second title, having lifted the inaugural crown in 2022. It also served as a measure of revenge for last year’s final defeat to Mwenge South, achieved despite the absence of head coach Innocent Barigye, who was suspended.

Tumusiime, named MTN Man of the Match, praised his side’s focus and execution.
“We played a good game, created chances and utilized them. We needed that win at home to keep our hopes alive. Mwenge South is not an easy team, especially at their ground, but we are confident,” he said.

Mwenge South, who missed several key players including captain Musunga, could not make the most of their opportunities. Team official Julius Atugonza was left frustrated by the missed chances.
“I am disappointed with this loss because we had all the chances to win the game and my players wasted them,” he said.

Head coach Samuel Matov admitted his side will need reinforcements in the return leg, to be played in Kyenjojo district in two weeks’ time.
“We struggled without some of our regulars, but we expect them back. Losing is part of football; we shall correct our mistakes,” he noted.

The heavy defeat leaves Mwenge South with a mountain to climb as they attempt to overturn a three-goal deficit and keep their title defense alive.

In the other semi-final, Burahya County will host Fort Portal County this Sunday at Kichwamba Technical College. Fort Portal hold a narrow 1-0 lead from the first leg, thanks to a goal by captain Yasin Malik, and are seeking a first-ever appearance in the final.
