Manchester United defender Harry Maguire says he believes it would be “silly” to leave the club, even after the team blocked his departure this summer.
The 32-year-old, who has a year left on his contract, praised the club’s new direction under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and technical director Jason Wilcox.
He confirmed that while other clubs were interested, United made it clear he was not for sale.
“I’m pretty sure the club made it clear this summer that I can’t leave on any terms,” Maguire said. “You’d be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could.”
Despite the team’s struggles last season, Maguire feels the club is in its “best place” since he joined in 2019.
He suggested that a new contract could be discussed in the coming months, but he’s keeping his preferred option to himself for now.
