Now that the 2025 Nile Special Uganda Rugby 7s Series has ended, it is time to have some fun in what will be a brief off-season.
But before we close the laptops and throw our boots in the store, please allow me to present my two teams of the national 7s series.
These are the seven girls/women and seven boys/men who have not only played some exceptional rugby but also made me happy with how they have done so. Plus the two coaches whose tactics have sprinkled some magic dust on an exciting series.
Here goes nothing!
My Women’s Team of the 2025 7s Series:
1. Suzan Adong (Black Pearls)
2. Yvonne Najjuma (Thunderbirds)
3. Justine Anguchia (Nile Rapids)
4. Caroline Anena (Walukuba Titans)
5. Maimuna Nassozi (Avengers)
6. Habiba Namalembe (She Wolves)
7. Comfort Anganyika (Thunderbirds)
COACH: Ronald Odakai (Nile Rapids)
Notable mentions on the women’s series include Lydia Namabiro who was neither forward nor back but still dominated wherever and Shaine Babirye who made playmaking look so simple yet stayed so sophisticated. Plus Sharon Iminza, Rebecca Kabajungu and Juliet Nandawula.
My Men’s Team of the 2025 7s Series:
1. Brian Simiyu (Elgon Wolves)
2. Jeremiah Ojambo (Pirates)
3. Fat Moses Watmon (Buffaloes)
4. Ivan Bulima (Walukuba Barbarians)
5. Daniel Otim (Buffaloes)
6. Shakim Ssembusi (Walukuba Barbarians)
7. Julius Oyuk (Heathens)
COACH: Leonard Lubambula (Walukuba Barbarians)
The list of notable mentions cannot miss Moses Ali who assumed a libero sort of position in his team and Ronald Ogwang who was simply delightful to watch. Plus Matthew Oluka, Liam Ssewanyana and Shalom Kuneshanukwayo.
