Premier League champions Liverpool have plunged into a “full-blown crisis,” putting Head Coach Arne Slot under “severe pressure” following a humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.
What was initially seen as a blip is now confirmed as a headlong fall. Liverpool have lost six of their last seven Premier League games, matching their defeat tally from the previous 58 matches.
Ex-defender Martin Keown called the situation “unthinkable,” noting that Slot has spent £450m only for the team to go backwards.
Slot admitted, “Playing at home, losing 3-0… is a very, very bad result,” taking responsibility for the team’s struggles. The team’s “soft underbelly” was exposed, conceding three goals, including one from a set-piece, as they were overwhelmed by Forest’s intensity.
Record signing Alexander Isak (£125m) was deemed “peripheral, lightweight, lost,” exemplifying the squad’s widespread failure. Compounding the shame, this is the first time Liverpool have lost back-to-back league games by three or more goals since 1965.
Now 11th in the table, the title defense is over. Slot faces the immediate challenge of achieving a “major turnaround” to secure a Champions League spot, or face even greater scrutiny.
