The 2026 MTN Monthly Tee season got underway on Saturday, January 24, with a competitive medal format event at Entebbe Golf Club that attracted 190 players and set the tone for another busy year on the local golfing calendar.
Susan Knight emerged as the overall winner after posting a net score of 64 off a handicap of 33, edging a strong field in the opening leg of the season. In the guest category, Louis Joseph Luyima claimed top honours with a net 67, while Isaac Mariera topped the seniors category for players aged 55 and above after returning a net score of 73.
The men’s divisions were closely contested, with Ronnie Kasirye winning Group A on countback after tying on 70 with runner up Lino Anguzu. In Group B, Richard Mucunguzi also needed countback to separate himself from Patrick Kagoro after both golfers signed for 69. Steven Kitamirike topped Group C following a countback victory over Tesfaye Gurmu, with both players finishing on 68.
In the ladies’ categories, Anne Abeja took Group A with a net score of 69 ahead of Rukia Nalwoga, while Moureen Okura delivered one of the standout performances of the day to win Group B on 66, finishing clear of Pamella Tumusiime.
The January Monthly Tee was sponsored by MTN alongside CFAO Mobility, WTW, Castle Lite and MoMo from MTN, continuing a partnership that has remained central to the growth and consistency of the series.
With the opening round completed, attention now shifts to the next events on the 2026 MTN Monthly Tee calendar as players begin the chase for early momentum in the Order of Merit race at Entebbe.
