Uganda’s bid to host the 13th edition of the African Games in 2031 has advanced after the African Union Sports Council bidding committee completed its inspection tour of proposed venues across the country.
The delegation concluded its assessment with visits to Hoima City Stadium and Hoima Arena, facilities earmarked to stage part of the event. Earlier in the week, the team evaluated several sports sites in Kampala as part of the verification process.
The inspection is a key step in determining the host nation. Officials assessed infrastructure readiness, accommodation capacity, transport systems, and the country’s ability to handle large numbers of athletes and officials. Uganda faces competition from Nigeria for hosting rights.
Securing the Games would represent a major sporting milestone for Uganda and could accelerate infrastructure upgrades while strengthening tourism and investment prospects tied to international sport.
A final decision is expected once the African Union Sports Council completes evaluations of both bidding nations.
