Uganda Premier League outfit URA FC appear poised for another change in the dugout, with head coach Hussein Mbalangu expected to leave the club after just six months in charge.
Footy-Uganda understands that Mbalangu has been summoned for discussions with the club’s top leadership, with indications pointing towards an imminent separation between the two parties.
The tactician was appointed in December on a short-term deal after replacing Alex Isabirye, but his tenure now looks set to come to an early conclusion as the Tax Collectors reassess their technical direction ahead of the new campaign.
Sources indicate that URA have already begun exploring potential replacements, with Express FC head coach Jimmy Kintu and St. Mary’s SS Kitende tactician Hassan Zzungu emerging as the leading candidates for the position.
Kintu enhanced his reputation during the recently concluded season after steering Express through a difficult campaign marked by financial challenges, while Zzungu continues to earn recognition for his work at the Kitende-based football powerhouse.
Although Mbalangu guided URA to the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, where they were eventually eliminated by SC Villa, the club’s league performances fell below expectations. The Tax Collectors finished 11th in the Uganda Premier League standings with 31 points, a return that has reportedly prompted the club to consider a fresh start on the bench.
With preparations for the upcoming season already underway, URA are expected to make a final decision on Mbalangu’s future in the coming days as they seek to restore the club’s competitiveness both domestically and in cup competitions.
