Mamba Kakoboza were crowned football champions of the 2026 Buganda Clan Games after defeating Nkima in a tense penalty shootout following a goalless draw at Wankulukuku Stadium on Saturday.
The annual cultural and sporting festival attracted thousands of spectators, who filled the stadium to witness the climax of one of Buganda Kingdom’s biggest community events.
Neither side could find a breakthrough during normal time in a closely fought final, forcing the contest to be decided from the penalty spot. Mamba Kakoboza goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya emerged as the match winner, producing two crucial saves during the shootout to secure the title for his clan.
His heroics sparked celebrations among Mamba Kakoboza supporters as the clan claimed football honours at the end of a hard-fought campaign.
The netball final also provided plenty of drama, with Nte edging Mamba Kakoboza 49-48 in a thrilling encounter to lift the trophy. The narrow victory ensured Nte finished as netball champions after one of the most closely contested matches of the tournament.
The closing ceremony drew large crowds, with supporters applauding the Kabaka of Buganda for continuing to champion the games. Participants and fans praised the event for strengthening unity among clans, preserving cultural heritage, and providing a platform for sports talent development across the kingdom.
Champions and outstanding performers from various sporting disciplines were recognised and awarded as the curtain came down on another successful edition of the Buganda Clan Games.
