Mutanda Bows Out After Pain-Plagued Career

Bashir Mutanda has announced his retirement from football, drawing the curtain on a career that promised much but was ultimately cut short by persistent injury struggles. The Wakiso Giants forward, only 28, confirmed he will hang up his boots after today’s FUFA Big League clash against Young Elephants Academy in Nwoya.

“Unfortunately, I feel like time is up for me though I would have loved to still play the beautiful game,” Mutanda told Kawowo Sports, revealing that injuries and reliance on painkillers forced his decision. “For the past five years, I have depended on pain killers to play football and it is hurting. This injury has taken a toll on me, limiting my abilities including reducing the pace at which I want to play. I feel I have made the right decision for the good of my health.”

Despite his struggles, Mutanda has been a key figure for Wakiso Giants this season, netting nine FUFA Big League goals. He hopes to sign off with one more memorable performance on the final day.

Mutanda’s journey began at Vipers SC, where he won the Juniors League in 2016. He later featured for Busoga United, SC Villa, Mbarara City, Mbabane Swallows in Eswatini, Maroons FC, and finally Wakiso Giants. His career highlights include consistent goal-scoring spells and a reputation as a hardworking forward admired across Uganda’s football circles.

As the FUFA Big League season concludes, fans will watch closely as Wakiso Giants face Young Elephants Academy in Nwoya, one of eight fixtures on the final day. Mutanda’s farewell adds emotional weight to a day already packed with decisive encounters across the country.
