Kitara FC president Deo Kasozi has welcomed the government’s decision to allow the club to host its CAF Confederation Cup home matches at Hoima City Stadium, describing it as a major opportunity for both the club and the Bunyoro region.
The approval was announced by State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang during the launch of the Hoima-Boma AFCON training facility on Friday. The event was attended by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
Speaking after the announcement, Kasozi said Kitara were excited to play their continental matches in Hoima, noting that the fixtures would provide valuable experience ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Hoima is set to host.
“We are excited to play our continental matches at the Hoima City Stadium. This is a strategic advantage for us. These Confederation Cup fixtures will also serve as the perfect rehearsal for the AFCON 2027 games that will also be held here, allowing us to show our readiness on the biggest stage,” Kasozi said.
The Kitara president also urged residents and businesses across Bunyoro to prepare for the opportunities that come with hosting continental football.
“This is a special opportunity for our entire region. I urge all locals; hotel owners, transport providers, and our passionate fans to prepare for this huge milestone,” he said.
Kasozi added that Kitara intends to make full use of the sports infrastructure being developed by the government and believes the investment will benefit both the club and the wider community.
“We have assured the Prime Minister and the government that these facilities will be actively utilized. While all clubs will benefit, Kitara FC, as a leader, is poised to make the most of this asset. It’s a blessing for our club, our community, and a wise investment for the nation.”
He also expressed gratitude to Nabbanja for pledging financial support to the club’s continental campaign.
“We are also deeply thankful to the Prime Minister for her generous offer of 20 million Uganda Shillings. This support will be crucial in facilitating visas for our players and the loyal fans who will travel to support us on this continental journey,” Kasozi said.
The approval clears the way for Kitara to play their CAF Confederation Cup home matches at Hoima City Stadium as the club prepares for its second continental appearance later this year.
