Tanzanian Premier League side Azam FC are nearing the completion of a deal for SC Villa attacker Hassan Mubiru after successfully agreeing personal terms with the player, according to Swift Sports Uganda.
The Dar es Salaam-based club is now expected to open discussions with SC Villa over a transfer fee to facilitate Mubiru’s departure, with Azam willing to pay for the remainder of the player’s contract.
Should negotiations between the two clubs progress smoothly, the versatile attacker is poised to sign a two-year contract during the current transfer window.
Mubiru was among SC Villa’s standout performers during the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season, contributing four goals and six assists. His consistent displays and versatility in attack have attracted interest from several clubs across the region.
Comfortable playing as a striker, attacking midfielder, or winger on either side, the former Express FC academy graduate has earned recognition for his creativity, technical ability, and adaptability in the final third.
Azam’s pursuit of the Ugandan international was far from straightforward. Tanzanian clubs Singida Black Stars, home to Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho, and Simba SC, alongside Rwandan champions APR FC, were all monitoring the player’s situation and expressing interest in securing his signature.
Mubiru’s journey in Ugandan football has seen him represent some of the country’s most prestigious clubs. After beginning his career at Express FC, he went on to feature for KCCA FC before joining record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa.
Azam FC’s move for Mubiru highlights the club’s ambition to bolster its squad ahead of next season. The club currently occupies third place in the Tanzanian Premier League with 55 points, sitting eight points behind leaders Young Africans SC with four matches left to play.
The potential acquisition of Mubiru would provide Azam with additional attacking quality and depth as they seek to mount a stronger challenge for domestic silverware in the upcoming campaign.
