The race for promotion to the FUFA Big League remains delicately balanced after Black Stars FC and Buwambo United played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their promotional playoff at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Black Stars, representing the Kampala Regional League, made the brighter start and were rewarded when Benon Lutaaya broke the deadlock to hand his side the advantage.
The lead, however, did not last long as Buwambo United responded strongly and found an equaliser before the halftime whistle to leave the contest level heading into the break.
With both teams aware of the stakes, the second half produced a closely contested affair. Chances came at either end as the sides searched for a decisive goal that could provide a crucial edge before the return fixture.
Neither team was able to find a breakthrough, though, as the match finished 1-1, ensuring the battle for promotion remains wide open.
The result leaves everything to play for in Saturday’s second leg, where Buwambo United will enjoy home advantage as they host Black Stars in the decisive encounter.
