Jane Asinde, captain of the Uganda women’s national basketball team (Gazelles), is set to embark on her first professional basketball journey in China next season.
Asinde made this announcement after her team, JKL Lady Dolphins, clinched their fourth National Women’s Basketball Championship title, securing a 4-2 playoff series win against UCU Lady Canons.
The forward, who returned to JKL Lady Dolphins after a three-month stint in preparation for the playoffs, played a pivotal role in the club’s title defence.
She joined the team fresh from UTEP’s women’s basketball program in the United States, providing the much-needed experience to help JKL retain their crown.
JKL’s title defence was sealed on Sunday night with a game six win, ending the series in their favour and marking their second consecutive championship victory.
Asinde’s contribution throughout the series was instrumental in leading the team to victory.
After winning the title, Asinde spoke about her next career step in an interview with CK Sports, revealing she would be playing for a club in China.
However, she refrained from disclosing the name of the team, admitting she couldn’t pronounce it.
Asinde leaves behind two Ugandan players at UTEP, Abby Priscilla and Mary Moses Amaniyo, who continue to make their mark on the US collegiate basketball scene.
