Mbale She Wolves’ Forward Sunday Anirwoth Eyes National Rugby Team Call-Up

18-year-old Mbale She Wolves forward, Sunday Flora Anirwoth, has set her sights on representing the national women’s rugby team as the gifted prop aims to scale the heights.

Anirwoth was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the season-ending Rujumba 7s, having played a key role in ensuring her side reached the final over the weekend before they lost 36-19 to Black Pearls.

Known for her courageous and versatile play, coupled with a passion for the sport, the gifted youngster is an exciting prospect.

The Nkoma SS student scored seven tries across the tournament while leading the eastern region side to a fifth-place finish.

Reflecting on her journey, having started playing rugby in 2022 during her Primary Seven vacation, Anirwoth shared, “It was the first circuit in Mbale where the team was playing against Soroti Rangers. A friend asked me to come along to watch a game, and from that moment, I got interested in the sport and started playing.”

Anirwoth dreams of donning the Lady Rugby Cranes jersey someday: “I’m working hard to earn a place with the national team and stay on.”

Having emerged MVP, the utility player says winning the MVP accolade is a significant achievement: “I’m surprised but happy to have won the MVP award. I was exhausted during the Thunderbirds game, but I kept pushing. The Black Pearls were also tough opponents, but we hope to win the trophy next season,” Anirwoth noted.

The Mbale She Wolves is one of the fastest-rising upcountry rugby sides, focusing on talent development.
