Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan Oshodi Elected President of African Table Tennis Federation

Wahid Enitan Oshodi, the Executive Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), has been elected as the new President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF).

Oshodi, who succeeds Egypt’s Khaled El-Salhy after his third and final term, was unanimously supported by the 40-member electorate during the ATTF Elective Annual General Meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Oshodi’s election is a historic moment for Nigeria, as he becomes only the second Nigerian to lead the ATTF, following Engr.

Segun George, who held the position from 1988 to 1996. Oshodi’s vast experience, including his current role at the ITTF, places him in a strong position to guide African table tennis through the next phase of its development.

The elections also saw Cameroon’s Alfred Bagueka elected as Deputy President of the ATTF, while Germain Karou and Andrew Mudibo secured the roles of Executive Vice Presidents (EVP) for Technical and Development, respectively.

In one of the more competitive races, Ghana’s Mawuko Afadzinu won the position of EVP Marketing, narrowly defeating Uganda’s Robert Jjagwe by a margin of 22 votes to 18.

The closely fought contest highlighted the keen interest in marketing efforts aimed at boosting the visibility and growth of table tennis in Africa.

Additionally, Ethiopia’s Tesfaye Bizane was elected as EVP Media/PR with 29 votes, while South Africa’s Hajera Kajee took the EVP Finance role. Egypt’s Moataz Ashour also emerged victorious, winning the position of EVP Administration.

In addition to the leadership changes within the ATTF, Nigeria’s Olabanji Oladapo secured a position on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Council, joining seven others representing Africa.

The ITTF Council plays a critical role in shaping the global direction of the sport, and with this election, Nigeria now has significant representation at both the continental and international levels.
