IOC President Thomas Bach Arrives in Uganda for Two-Day Visit

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach arrived in Uganda on Tuesday afternoon, marking the start of his two-day visit to the country as part of his farewell tour across Africa.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, President Bach was warmly welcomed by a delegation from the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), led by UOC President Donald Rukare. Olympic Gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei was also present to receive the IOC President.

Bach’s visit to Uganda comes as part of his broader tour of African countries, which includes Senegal, South Africa, Lesotho, Uganda, and Rwanda.

Following his stay in Uganda, he will travel to Kenya, continuing his final tour before concluding his tenure as IOC President.

During his visit, Bach is expected to meet with athletes, Olympians, sports leaders, and senior government officials.

He will also tour the Game Connect Project, a sports initiative supported by the Olympic Refugee Foundation, aimed at promoting social inclusion through sports for refugees and displaced individuals.

The Uganda Olympic Committee expressed its excitement about Bach’s visit, with UOC President Donald Rukare stating, “We are honored and thrilled to host the President of the International Olympic Committee. This visit underscores the growing ties between Uganda and the Olympic Movement.”

Bach’s presence in Uganda is seen as a significant milestone, further cementing Uganda’s place in the global sports community, particularly in light of recent Olympic successes, including the medal-winning performances of athletes like Joshua Cheptegei.
