Man United Face Defensive Crisis Ahead of Brentford Clash

Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag, marking the end of his two-and-a-half-year tenure at Old Trafford.

The decision comes after United suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday, their fourth loss in nine Premier League games.

The club is currently grappling in 14th place on the Premier League table and have been struggling to find form under the Dutch manager.

The club confirmed the decision in an official statement, highlighting the board’s appreciation for Ten Hag’s contributions, including leading United to Carabao Cup glory in 2023 and an FA Cup triumph in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the statement read.

The 54-year old former Ajax manager, who had been offered a contract extension by new co-owners INEOS in the summer despite last season’s eighth-place finish, saw United invest heavily in new signings with around £200 million spent during the transfer window.

However, the substantial backing failed to translate into improved results, ultimately costing Ten Hag his position.

According to the club statement, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as interim head coach, stepping in from his role within the club to lead United while the search for a permanent successor begins.

The former United striker will work alongside the current coaching team as the club seeks stability during a challenging period in their Premier League campaign.
