Former Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango delivered a standout performance as Mamelodi Sundowns came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Magesi FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Onyango, who played the entire match, was instrumental in keeping the defending champions in the game, making several crucial saves that proved decisive in their hard-fought win.
The hosts took an early lead in the 11th minute through Wonderboy Makhubu.
Magesi threatened to extend their advantage, but Onyango showcased his sharp reflexes, denying Makhubu a second goal in a one-on-one situation and pulling off another smart save at the near post early in the second half.
With the game hanging in the balance, Onyango’s composure between the posts allowed his teammates to push forward.
Sundowns equalized in the 64th minute through Lucas Ribeiro before Tashreeq Matthews secured the win with a late goal in the dying stages of the match.
