Kampala City Council Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) this morning announced the appointment of Sérgio Traguil, a renowned Portuguese football manager, as their new manager on a two year contract . Traguil will be taking over from Jackson Mayanja, who served as the interim manager until the conclusion of the Uganda Premier League season 2022/2023.
This managerial change comes just two weeks after the conclusion of the season, where KCCA FC finished in second place, narrowly missing out on the championship title to Vipers SC, who clinched the top spot due to a superior goal difference.
Sérgio Traguil brings a wealth of experience and an impressive track record to his new role. Notably, he previously worked with Benfica Youth Teams from 2009 to 2012. In 2016, Traguil achieved a commendable third place finish in the Ghana Premier League, with his team falling just three points short of the title, maintaining an unbeaten record in home matches throughout the season.
Furthermore, Traguil secured the accolade for the best attack in Girabola in 2018. His managerial prowess was demonstrated when he led his team to the top of the standings in a previous season, only to have 12 points deducted by FIFA due to the Rivaldo’s case. Despite this setback, Traguil still managed to guide his team to the State Cup Final in the Mozambique Premier League with ENH in 2020. Unfortunately, the final was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another notable achievement of Traguil’s managerial career was his success with Club Desportivo da Lunda Sul, where he led the team to victory in the Professional League Segundona. This triumph marked the club’s first-ever title win, with an undefeated record, alongside the best attack and defense in the league.
In 2022, Traguil continued his winning streak by securing the championship title with DTB/Singida Big Stars in Tanzania. One of the most remarkable aspects of his managerial tenure is that from 2020 to 2022, his teams remained unbeaten in league matches, a feat that showcases his exceptional leadership and tactical skills.
