As they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Kitara earlier in the week, Vipers made it seven winners’ medals in the Uganda Premier League, level with Express, and behind Villa (17), along with KCCA (13).
This weekend, on Saturday, they are in a strong position to make the final of the prestigious Uganda Cup, should they get the better of holders Kitara. Already, the Venoms hold a 1-0 advantage headed into the showdown.
In the first leg, it needed a late Yunus Sentamu goal at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, to salvage the much-needed goal in the tie, as they were the hosts then.
This time, at the Royal Park, Butema in Hoima, it’s set to be an even harder nut, but one they have to crack, to continue to write their name higher in the history books.
The Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa-funded team can be just the second team to win a domestic double more than two times, with the other being SC Villa, who have previously managed the feat a massive six times (1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000 and 2002). Express and KCCA FC have done it once, apiece in 1995 and 2017, respectively.
It’s worth noting that the Kitende-based team only joined the top-flight in the 2009/10 season, as Bunamwaya FC. No team has been as successful during that time, domestically, in terms of Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup titles won.
Meanwhile, in Butema on Saturday, Vipers will be up against one of their trickiest tests this season and in recent history, with their hosts keen on putting a stop to their dominion.
