The second season of the FUBA Primary Schools League tipped off on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Beautiful Beginnings School in Sissa, Wakiso, with fresh energy and a renewed commitment to growing grassroots basketball in Uganda.
Making its debut both as a participating school and the official host for the Wakiso B cluster, Beautiful Beginnings School set the tone for what promises to be a vibrant season.
The event marked the official launch of this year’s competition, which brings together 30 Under-11 and Under-13 teams from 10 schools across the Kampala and Buganda regions.
With 337 pupils ranging from Primary Three to Primary Seven taking part, the league continues to prioritise development at the foundational level.
This season also reflects a healthy gender balance, with 52.8% of the participants being boys and 47.2% girls, a testament to the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA)’s commitment to inclusivity in sport.
The league’s core objective remains unchanged: nurturing basketball talent from the ground up by providing structured, age-appropriate competition for primary school pupils.
However, this year’s approach carries an added dimension, as participating schools are taking turns to host matchdays.
This includes City Parents School for the Kampala group and Twinbrooks Elementary School for Wakiso A.
Hosting duties go beyond logistics, as they offer schools the opportunity to develop sports management experience while showcasing their basketball programs to stakeholders, including parents, school heads, sponsors, and alumni.
According to FUBA, this exposure is crucial in sustaining momentum and deepening community engagement with the sport.
As the league expands its reach and visibility, organizers hope it will inspire more schools to invest in basketball programs and encourage greater student participation.
The action continues Sunday, July 20, at City Parents and Twinbrooks Elementary School, with more games lined up throughout the season.
