Fermín López bagged a historic hat-trick and Marcus Rashford added a brace as Barcelona thrashed Olympiacos 6-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
López, who became the first Spaniard to score a Champions League treble for the club, netted twice in the first half (7′ and 38′).
The second goal was assisted by 17-year-old La Masia debutant Dro Fernández.
Olympiacos briefly responded with an Ayoub El Kaabi penalty (53′), but their hope was quickly extinguished when midfielder Santiago Hezze was shown a red card in the 57th minute.
With the man advantage, Barcelona exploded. Lamine Yamal (who became the youngest player to reach 25 Champions League appearances) converted a penalty (68′), followed by goals from Rashford (74′, 79′) and López’s magnificent third (76′).
The result, which manager Hansi Flick praised for showcasing the club’s reliance on young La Masia talent, is the first time Barcelona have scored six goals in the competition since 2017.
