Haaland became the first top-flight player to score five goals in an FA Cup tie since George Best struck six for Manchester United against Northampton Town in 1970. Another goal from Mateo Kovacic ensured City’s victory over Luton Town, with a final score of 6-2, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
The game appeared to be all but decided after the Norwegian bagged his eighth City hat-trick before halftime. Luton threatened a comeback when Jordan Clark found the top corner with a sublime effort on the stroke of halftime and netted again early in the second half to make it 3-2.
However, City proved too strong, with Haaland adding two more goals and Mateo Kovacic also joining the scoresheet to seal a 6-2 victory. City are now unbeaten in 18 games across all competitions.
Second-tier leaders Leicester City joined Pep Guardiola’s side in the quarter-finals by defeating Premier League Bournemouth 1-0. Meanwhile, Newcastle United advanced by beating Blackburn 4-3 on penalties.
