Uganda’s Silverbacks closed the first window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers with a 91 to 52 defeat to Egypt at the Borg El Arab Arena, finishing the round without a win in Group D.
The result means Uganda lost all three games in Alexandria, following earlier defeats to Algeria and Mali. It was a difficult stretch for the Silverbacks, who struggled to sustain momentum across four quarters in each outing.
Against Egypt, Uganda started brightly and led 2 to 0 and 4 to 2 in the opening minutes. That proved to be their only spell in front.
Egypt responded with an early surge and then produced a decisive 18 to 0 run bridging the first and second quarters, turning a narrow contest into a one sided game. By halftime, the hosts had taken firm control and continued to stretch the margin in the second half.
Nike Sibande once again carried the fight for Uganda. He posted 11 points and 10 rebounds in over 34 minutes, adding three assists and two steals.
His effort on both ends stood out, but the Silverbacks found scoring hard to come by as Egypt’s defence tightened and limited clean looks.
Uganda led for just under two minutes all game, while Egypt controlled proceedings for more than 37 minutes. The largest gap reached 39 points late in the fourth quarter, underlining the scale of the challenge the Silverbacks faced.
With the first round window complete, Uganda sit bottom of Group D at 0 and 3.
