Allan Okello’s rise at Young Africans SC is quickly transforming from a story of scrutiny into one of emphatic redemption.
When the Ugandan playmaker arrived in Tanzania in January, expectations were immense. A reported $300,000 transfer fee, coupled with his glowing reputation from Vipers SC, placed him firmly under the spotlight. Yet his introduction was anything but smooth.
Thrown straight into a side juggling domestic ambitions and CAF Champions League commitments, Okello showed glimpses of quality, but not the numbers to match. Five games passed without a goal or assist.
Murmurs began to grow. By his eighth appearance, he had managed just a single goal involvement. For a player of his pedigree, it wasn’t enough. Doubts crept in from fans and media alike, both in Uganda and Tanzania, questioning whether he could truly replicate his Vipers brilliance on a bigger stage.

But class, as they say, is permanent, and Okello is now proving exactly that. His turning point arrived on his sixth outing, when he registered his first assist in a commanding 3-0 CAF Champions League victory over JS Kabylie. That moment quietly ignited a transformation.
Fast forward to the present, and Okello is in irresistible form: In Yanga’s recent 6-0 demolition of Mbeya City on Thursday, he orchestrated proceedings with two sublime assists, taking his tally to six in his last three matches alone.

It is a run that has elevated him into the league’s most lethal creator, remarkably leading the assist charts in the Tanzania Premier League with six, despite joining midway through the season.
Across all competitions, his numbers now read eight assists and two goals in 17 appearances, a sharp contrast to his slow start, and a powerful statement of resilience.

More than just statistics, however, Okello is now dictating the rhythm of games. He is no longer adapting, he is commanding. Every touch carries intent, every pass slices defenses open, and every performance reinforces his growing authority within the team.
The narrative has shifted.
Where there was doubt, there is now belief. Where there was pressure, there is now poise. Allan Okello is not just finding form, he is redefining it, and in doing so, proving that discipline, patience, talent, and perseverance remain football’s most potent combination.
