Uganda’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Teen Cranes, booked their place in the second round of the African qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 4-1 win over Zimbabwe in the return leg at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on Saturday.
The result completed a 6-1 aggregate victory, underlining the team’s dominance across both matches.
Head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes praised her players for their discipline and execution, highlighting the strong start that set the tone.
“We are so proud of the girls’ performance. They really played according to instructions. We started well and got three goals early, dominated in the first and second zones, and managed to get the result we wanted,” she said.
Despite the emphatic victory, Botes stressed the importance of continued development. She noted that the team is still learning and highlighted their openness to growth as a key strength. She also identified areas for improvement, particularly attacking in the second half and set-piece efficiency.
Botes acknowledged the role of clubs and schools in nurturing the players and thanked fans for their strong support. Looking ahead, she confirmed preparations are already underway for the next round against Kenya in May, with some players also involved in the Queen Cranes camp.
Uganda now shifts focus to the second-round clash as the Teen Cranes aim to continue their push for a spot at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
