Uganda Hippos Stage Remarkable Comeback, Advance to All Africa Games Final

Uganda’s U20 men’s football national team, the Uganda Hippos, overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a spot in the finals of the All Africa Games, setting up a showdown with Ghana.

The Hippos staged an impressive rally against DR Congo, ultimately triumphing 4-2 in a fiercely contested match.

The match started with adversity for Uganda, as defender Ronald Madoi received a booking in the 13th minute. Their troubles deepened when Congo seized the lead in the 15th minute with Servyl Akouala’s clinical free-kick.

Adding to Uganda’s woes, goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya was forced off the field due to injury just four minutes later.

As halftime approached, Congo dealt another blow, doubling their lead with a goal right on the brink of the break.

The second half saw a remarkable turnaround, with Abasi Kyeyune igniting Uganda’s resurgence by pulling one back in the 60th minute.

The momentum swung firmly in Uganda’s favour when Bruno Bunyaga levelled the score ten minutes later, sending the supporters into a frenzy.

Bunyaga then etched his name into the annals of Ugandan football history, netting his second goal of the night and propelling Uganda into the lead.

The Hippos sealed their victory emphatically in the 81st minute, as substitute Hakim Mutebi found the back of the net, securing a commanding 4-2 advantage.

With this inspiring comeback, the Uganda Hippos have guaranteed themselves a medal at the All Africa Games, with aspirations set on the gold.

They now look ahead to the much-anticipated final clash against Ghana, scheduled for Friday, March 22. Ghana earned their spot in the finals with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Senegal.
