After controversy surrounding his age, Cameroonian footballer Douala, who claimed to be 17 years old, has been given the green light to continue representing his country. The decision comes after an investigation by Cameroon’s Football Association (FECAFOOT) concluded that Douala’s identity was indeed genuine, dispelling concerns raised during this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Douala, a midfielder for Victoria United, made headlines as the youngest player selected for the prestigious tournament. However, doubts emerged within the football community, leading to his inclusion among the 62 players suspended by FECAFOOT over alleged age falsification.
Despite the initial skepticism, FECAFOOT’s thorough examination cleared Douala of any wrongdoing, allowing him to refocus on his club commitments and potentially earn future international call-ups.
Referred to as “the most mature 17-year-old in the world” by Camfoot, Douala did not feature in any matches during this year’s AFCON, with his reinstatement now paving the way for a promising career trajectory.
