Day 14 of the Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League produced dominant performances with bat and ball, although persistent rain also played a major role as two matches were abandoned across the Gold Category.
At Entebbe Cricket Ground, Tornado Bees CC secured a convincing 60-run victory over Aboojo CC despite being bowled out for just 105. After Aboojo captain Brian Asaba won the toss and elected to field, Tornado Bees struggled against disciplined bowling, losing wickets regularly throughout their innings.
Yadav Chanchal fell without scoring, while David Musoke and Roger Galiwango Mukasa were dismissed cheaply. Munir Ismail contributed 15 runs and captain Jeremy Kibukamusoke remained unbeaten on 16 to help the Bees reach 105 in 25.4 overs. Dan Keith Amani and Joseph Baguma claimed three wickets apiece for Aboojo, with Philemon Rwothomio taking two.
Any hopes of an Aboojo recovery quickly disappeared during the chase as Suleman Sharif delivered a devastating spell. The bowler ripped through the batting order to finish with six wickets, while Jonathan Ssebanja and Roger Galiwango Mukasa each picked up two wickets. Aboojo were bundled out for just 45 in 19.1 overs, with Baguma’s 17 the highest score of the innings. Sharif’s match-winning display earned him the Player of the Match award.
Rain then took centre stage in the other Gold Category fixtures. The clash between Mukono Warriors and Ceylon Lions at Lugogo Cricket Oval was abandoned, while the Jinja derby between JACC and Rounders also fell victim to persistent rainfall, forcing both matches to be called off.
In the Silver Category, Soroti City CC delivered one of the performances of the day with a crushing 148-run victory over St John’s SS Mukono at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
After choosing to bat first, Soroti City piled up an imposing 324 all out in 42.5 overs. Emmanuel Twijukye anchored the innings superbly with 81 from 67 balls, striking 11 boundaries and a six. Alban Ainebyona added 22 before Malinga Jacob unleashed an explosive 77 from just 44 deliveries, including six fours and five sixes. Derrick Bakunzi chipped in with a quickfire 35 as Soroti posted the highest total of the day.
St John’s fought hard in reply through Mathias Ssentongo, who scored 56, while Jonah Nsamba and Daniel Rubangakene contributed 31 and 33 respectively. However, regular wickets prevented any serious challenge to the target. Bakunzi and Stephen Okiror claimed two wickets each as St John’s were dismissed for 176 in 47.4 overs. Twijukye’s influential knock earned him the Player of the Match accolade.
The Bronze Category Group B fixture at Akbar Baig Cricket Ground produced the closest contest of the day as Pak Shaheens CC defeated Chennai CC by four wickets.
Chennai posted 193 all out in 34 overs after Aneef Sha Mohamed struck 43 and Ratheesh S Pillai made 48. Abdul Basit Habib, Raheel Sarwar and Akbar Ahmad shared the wickets for Pak Shaheens.
In response, Pak Shaheens overcame early setbacks thanks to an outstanding unbeaten 94 from Sunil Kumar. His innings, which featured 10 fours and three sixes, formed the backbone of the chase, while Raheel Sarwar added 35. Pak Shaheens reached 194 for six in 28.3 overs to seal victory with plenty of overs to spare. Kumar was named Player of the Match for his match-winning effort.
The day’s results saw Tornado Bees strengthen their position with a clinical bowling display, Soroti City underline their credentials through a powerful all-round performance, and Pak Shaheens continue their progress in Bronze Group B, while the weather denied several teams the opportunity to build momentum in the competition.
