The Uganda Hockey Association is set to host this year’s edition of the Easter Cup tournament. This tournament stands as one of the longest-standing competitions in Ugandan hockey, second only to the league itself.
This year, organizers have set ambitious goals, aiming to provide maximum participation opportunities while fostering competitive matchups against visiting teams from Kenya, who have traditionally added flair to the event. The primary objective is to facilitate development of the hockey game through intense competition and cultural exchange.
A total of seven men’s teams, including stalwarts like Kampala Hockey Club Stallions and Wananchi, will compete alongside Kenyan representatives, Wazalendo. On the women’s side, teams, such as perennial champions Kampala Hockey Club Swans and Wananchi, will showcase their skills.
Matches will take place from March 29 to March 31 at the National Hockey Stadium in Lugogo. The tournament format tentatively includes group stages for the men and round-robin play for the women, ensuring every team has a chance to shine.
In addition to the on-field excitement, organizers have curated a weekend filled with special events and networking opportunities for participants and spectators alike. Attendees can look forward to engaging with fellow hockey enthusiasts while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.
