Prisons Netball Club continued their impressive start to the National Super League campaign with a hard-fought 48-44 victory over Makindye Weyonje on Saturday, securing a second consecutive win since the league resumed.
The Match Day 2 contest lived up to expectations as both sides produced an entertaining display filled with pace, quick transitions and intelligent play. However, it was Prisons Queens who maintained control for most of the encounter, building crucial leads in each quarter before holding off a late challenge from their opponents.
Prisons took an early advantage and led 13-11 at the end of the opening quarter. They tightened their grip on the match in the second period, extending the gap to eight goals and heading into halftime with a commanding 28-20 lead.
The Queens continued to dictate proceedings after the break, combining solid defensive work with efficient shooting to move 39-30 ahead by the end of the third quarter.
Makindye Weyonje mounted a spirited comeback in the closing stages and reduced the deficit, threatening to overturn the result. But Prisons showed composure under pressure, remaining disciplined at the back while converting key opportunities to secure the 48-44 victory.
The result means Prisons Queens have now won both of their matches since the restart, maintaining a perfect record and strengthening their early position in the National Super League standings.
Prisons had been scheduled to return to action against KCCA on Sunday, but that fixture has been postponed and will be played on a date yet to be announced.
