More than 220 golfers turned out for the opening qualifier of the 2026 NCBA Golf Series at Uganda Golf Club, but NCBA Bank Uganda Chief Executive Officer Mark Muyobo says the tournament’s significance now extends far beyond the fairways.
Speaking during the season-opening event on Saturday, Muyobo described the Golf Series as a platform that has evolved into one of East Africa’s most influential amateur sporting initiatives, combining competition, talent development, networking opportunities and community impact.
“The NCBA Golf Series was created to go beyond the game, to build a platform where talent is nurtured, competition thrives, and meaningful relationships are formed. Over the years, it has grown into one of East Africa’s most impactful sporting platforms, and Uganda remains central to that journey,” Muyobo said.
His remarks came as golfers from across Uganda gathered to compete for places at the regional Grand Finale in Nairobi, with the strong turnout underlining the tournament’s growing popularity and reach.
Muyobo said the Golf Series reflects NCBA’s wider mission of helping individuals and communities unlock their potential and pursue their ambitions.
“At NCBA, we bank on belief and empower ambitions. This Series reflects our dedication to unlocking potential, not just in sport, but in the lives and aspirations of the communities we serve,” he said.
The tournament will now move to Entebbe Club for the next qualifying event, with winners from each round earning the opportunity to represent Uganda at the regional championship in Nairobi. NCBA will facilitate participation for the qualifying golfers.
Beyond the competition itself, Muyobo’s comments highlighted the broader role the bank continues to play in developing golf in Uganda. Through the NCBA Junior Golf Series, implemented in partnership with US Kids Golf, the bank has invested in nurturing young talent and providing pathways to international competition.
The impact has also stretched beyond sport through community initiatives. During this year’s series, NCBA partnered with Pendeza Uganda to distribute water purification systems to families in Makerere Kivulu, reinforcing the tournament’s social development agenda.
With the opening qualifier successfully concluded, Muyobo believes the Golf Series will continue serving as a vehicle for opportunity, connection and growth while strengthening Uganda’s place within East Africa’s golfing landscape.
