For Ugandans living abroad, football is more than just a game — it is a powerful link to home, a celebration of identity, and a way to strengthen community bonds across the diaspora. That spirit will once again be on full display as the Euro Cranes Tournament 2026 brings together Ugandan communities from across Europe and beyond for a weekend of football, entertainment, and unity.
Organised by Uganda Cranes Netherlands in partnership with the Euro Cranes Association, the tournament will run from 3–5 July 2026 at Bijlmersportpark, Karspeldreef 501, 1102 BX Amsterdam, Netherlands. The venue is expected to welcome hundreds of Ugandans from different countries, creating an atmosphere that blends competitive football with the warmth of Ugandan culture — food, music, and family-friendly barbecue experiences.
The Euro Cranes Tournament was first staged in 2018 in Berlin, Germany, with five teams: Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Belgium. Since then, it has rotated annually across European countries including the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and most recently Helsinki, Finland in 2025, with a pause in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Traditionally, the competition has featured Ugandan teams based in Europe. However, the 2026 edition marks a milestone as it expands beyond Europe for the first time, welcoming a guest team from Ugandans based in the United States of America. This development underscores the tournament’s transformation from a regional diaspora event into a truly global celebration of Ugandan identity, unity, and pride.
This year’s edition will feature ten teams divided into two competitive groups, promising exciting matchups and intense rivalries:
Group A
– Sweden
– Finland
– USA (Guest Team)
– Greece
– Belgium
Group B
– Netherlands
– Norway
– United Kingdom
– Denmark
– Germany
With pride, reputation, and bragging rights at stake, fans can expect high-intensity encounters as teams battle for qualification into the knockout stages and ultimately the championship title.
Beyond the competition, the Euro Cranes Tournament serves a deeper purpose. It provides a platform for Ugandans abroad to reconnect, network, and celebrate their shared heritage. It also plays a vital role in introducing younger generations to Ugandan culture, values, and identity.
