As St. Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende prepares to celebrate its Silver Jubilee on July 4, 2026, the institution stands as Uganda’s most successful sports school of the last quarter-century. Over 25 years, the school has amassed more than 100 major trophies, establishing a legacy that few institutions in East Africa can rival.
At the heart of this extraordinary rise is Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the school’s visionary proprietor. His influence has shaped a culture of excellence that has produced champions across multiple disciplines.
Football, as the flagship of Kitende’s sporting empire
The school has won a record 11 USSSA National Football Championships, more than any other school in Uganda. Beyond the country’s borders, Kitende has captured an unrivalled 15 FEASSSA East African football titles, making it the most decorated school football programme in the region.
Its dominance begins in the locality. The school has collected more than 14 Wakiso District championships and, in 2026, reclaimed both the Kitende Zone and Wakiso Regional titles. Such consistency has made Kitende the benchmark against which school football excellence is measured.

The dominion cuts across to other disciplines
In netball, Kitende’s supremacy has been even more pronounced. The school secured its historic 18th FEASSSA East African Netball Championship in Huye, Rwanda, further cementing its status as the undisputed powerhouse of the sport in the region. For nearly two decades, it has been a dominant force on the national stage while producing players who have gone on to represent Uganda at youth and senior levels.
Basketball has also flourished under the Kitende banner. The girls’ team announced itself as a regional giant by winning consecutive FEASSSA double crowns in both the 5×5 and 3×3 categories in 2022 and 2023. With more than 20 major basketball championships, the programme has become another pillar of the school’s sporting success.

What makes Kitende’s story remarkable is not simply the number of trophies won, but the consistency with which excellence has been achieved. Across football, netball and basketball, the school has built a culture that develops talent, inspires ambition and delivers results year after year.
The same winning philosophy has also crept to their sister club Vipers SC, who have eight Uganda Premier League titles, including the 2025/26 crown, and four Uganda Cups in just 20 years of existence.
As St. Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende marks 25 years, it does so not merely as a successful institution, but as a sporting colossus whose achievements have reshaped the landscape of school sports in Uganda and East Africa.
