In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of FUFA, Vipers Sports Club has raised concerns about what they allege was biased officiation during their recent Uganda Cup match against Kitara FC.
Former Vipers midfielder, Paul Mucureezi conversfed three penalties to dump his former side from the competition as Kitara reached their first ever Uganda Cup semi-final.
Now, in a letter, penned by Vipers CEO Njuba Simon Peter, the club highlighted two specific incidents during the match on April 14th, 2024, at Masindi Stadium.
Firstly, Vipers contend that Kitara were awarded a controversial penalty kick in the 65th minute, which they claim was the result of diving by Kitara’s Jude Ssemugabi.
Secondly, they argue that a Vipers player was fouled in the penalty area of Kitara in the 87th minute, but no penalty was given despite clear evidence.
Vipers also cited a similar incident in a previous match against KCCA FC where a last-minute penalty was awarded against them, expressing dismay at the lack of repercussions for match officials involved in such controversial decisions.
The letter was copied to several high-ranking officials within FUFA, including the president and competitions director, as well as the CEO of the Uganda Premier League and the chairman of the referee’s standing committee.
Vipers currently sit 3rd in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings, two points behind leaders Kitara with a game in hand.
