Following two test games at the Mandela National Stadium, commonly known as Namboole Stadium, fans raised concerns about various issues, including ticketing, access, and facilities such as washrooms.
In response to these concerns, FUFA President Moses Magogo addressed the ongoing renovation process at the stadium, emphasizing that Namboole is a work in progress.
Magogo acknowledged the challenges encountered during the test games but urged fans to consider the broader context.
“Even with challenges, the Namboole Test Games were largely a success story. We observed and identified the challenges and this was the purpose of the Test Games,” he said.
Despite the ongoing renovations, Magogo emphasized that efforts were being made to address the issues raised by fans.
“People need to understand that Mandela National Stadium renovation works are still ongoing,” he said adding that FUFA is actively engaging with contractors to ensure that necessary improvements are made in time for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers scheduled to be hosted at the stadium in June.
Uganda is slated to host Botswana and Algeria in June for the World Cup qualifiers. The approval of Namboole stadium to host these critical matches remains uncertain. Should approval be withheld, Uganda may be forced to explore alternative venues outside the country.
