Prisons Netball Team Aiming for East African Dominance After Domestic Glory

The Uganda Prisons Service Netball Club is setting its sights on the prestigious East African Netball Club Championship slated for May 12th – 31st in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, as they look to extend their domestic supremacy to the regional stage.

With four Ugandan National Netball League titles and two East African Netball Club Championship trophies already in their cabinet, the Prisons Netball team is determined to add more silverware to their growing collection.

The team, consisting of players, coaches, and sports administrators, was given a touching send-off by Mr. Frank Baine, the Senior Commissioner of Prisons, at a ceremony held at the Prisons Headquarters in Kampala.

Baine, representing the Commissioner General of Prisons, emphasized the importance of discipline, commitment, teamwork, and consistency for the team’s success.

“The coaches must adopt a game-by-game strategy to ensure the team’s success and pave the way for them to emerge victorious,” Baine said, urging the team to avoid the costly mistakes that had plagued them in the past, such as their narrow loss in the final of the Nairobi tournament last year.

Baine also pledged the Uganda Prisons Service’s continued support for the development of sports at both domestic and international levels, and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to succeed against tough opponents from countries like Zambia and Malawi.

The Prisons Netball team has a rich history of dominance, and they are eager to take that success to the regional stage. Florence Amono, the team manager expressed the team’s readiness, citing their extensive training in all technical aspects of the sport.

This was re-echoed by team captain Christine Namulumba Kango who said, “We are prepared both mentally and physically to compete in the upcoming campaign.” She also extended her gratitude to the Uganda Prisons Service leadership for their unwavering support.
