The StarTimes Uganda Premier League title race has reached a fever pitch, with the top four teams separated by just a single point as the season enters its final stretch.
Vipers’s narrow 1-0 victory over Express on Wednesday evening at Kitende level on points BUL FC, with captain Milton Karisa’s 20th-minute strike proving the difference. The Venoms now sit second on the table with 49 points, boasting the league’s best goal difference of 21.
BUL are top of the table courtesy of head-to-head advantage but with six fewer goals scored. Their recent win over the league leaders has kept them firmly in the title race.
Kitara, currently in third place, are just a point behind the top two, having gone unbeaten in their last three matches, managing two wins and a draw. Meanwhile, SC Villa’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Wakiso Giants has kept the Jogoos within touching distance of the leaders, sitting just a point off the pace.
Although KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru downplayed his side’s title hopes after their Tuesday win against UPDF, the Kasasiro Boys remain mathematically in contention, sitting fifth with 45 points, just four behind Vipers with three games to go.
Matchday 28, scheduled for Saturday, May 11th, promises to be another thrilling chapter in this captivating title race. League leaders Vipers will travel to sixth-placed NEC in a must-win encounter, while BUL host struggling Gaddafi. Kitara will welcome relegation-threatened Busoga United, while SC Villa face a tricky away fixture against UPDF, and KCCA will be hosted by URA.
