The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has scheduled an emergency meeting to address the recent conflict between its president, Samuel Eto’o, and the national team’s coach, Marc Brys. This decision follows a missed working session and a heated exchange at Fecafoot headquarters.
The meeting of Fecafoot’s Emergency Committee will determine the next steps for Cameroon’s national team as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The ongoing crisis in Cameroonian football intensified after the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Ivory Coast, where the national team underperformed.
In April, Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi appointed Marc Brys as the new coach, a move initially opposed by Eto’o. Despite his reluctance, Eto’o eventually accepted Brys but imposed his own technical, medical, and administrative staff.
Tensions came to a head on May 28 during a meeting at Fecafoot headquarters. The session began cordially with Eto’o welcoming Brys, but it quickly escalated.
Eto’o clashed with Cyrille Tollo, the sports minister’s technical advisor, demanding Tollo’s expulsion for interfering in a private discussion. “Call security and throw him out! This is the last time, understood?” Eto’o reportedly exclaimed.
Eto’o then pressured Brys to align with his directives, criticizing him for perceived mistakes. This led to a tense atmosphere, prompting Brys to leave the room, and Eto’o to call for the Emergency Committee’s intervention.
