St. Peter’s College Tororo, a historic educational institution established in 1941 by the Mill Hill Fathers, is embarking on a significant infrastructural development initiative to revive its legacy as a powerhouse in both academics and sports. This effort comes in response to the growing dominance of private schools in sports and the deteriorating facilities at the institution.
Once renowned for producing exceptional sports talents such as Paul Hasule, Godfrey Higenyi, Godfrey Bigala, Samuel Barigo, Edmond Owor, Humphrey Mandu, and Eric Anyole, St. Peter’s College Tororo has seen a decline in its contributions to Uganda’s sports industry due to its aging infrastructure. The school’s alumni, recognizing the urgent need for renovation, have organized a fundraising event to address these challenges.
The fundraising event, themed “Making Tororo College Great Again,” will be held at Silver Springs Hotel Bugolobi on Thursday next week. The campaign aims to raise UGX 3.1 billion, which will be allocated towards improving sports facilities, as well as addressing critical issues such as water and sanitation.
St. Peter’s College Tororo has a storied history of producing not only sports stars but also distinguished academicians and public figures. Notable alumni include Prof. Patrick Ogwang, Vinand Nantulya, Amos Wekesa, and several legislators. The planned renovations are expected to restore the school’s status as a premier institution for nurturing talent across various disciplines.
