Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Ball Games II for 2024 were officially launched in a ceremony at Soroti City Sports Ground on Thursday 11th July.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries and presided over by Rev. Dr. Canon Duncan Mugumya, Commissioner of Physical Education, representing the Sports Minister, Hon. Peter Ogwang.
The ceremony was graced by a plethora of notable figures, including USSSA President Justus Mugisha, a representative from the National Council of Sports, Jocelyn Ucanda, the former She Cranes Manager and NIC Netball club manager, and Dr Sarah Nkonge, the manager of the Rock Male National Netball team.
Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, the Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Uganda for increasing funding for sports activities, enabling a large number of athletes to participate in the games.
He also thanked the government for maintaining peace in the country and creating a conducive environment for sports development.
Additionally, he commended USSSA for conducting capacity-building programs, training referees, and media officers, and other initiatives that enhance young talents. He emphasized the importance of eliminating non-bona fide players and warned that any culprits would be arrested.
Finally, he encouraged all participants to develop their talents, promoting a culture of excellence in sports. His speech highlighted the government’s commitment to sports development, the importance of fair play, and the need to nurture young talents.
The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Ball Games II, which has drawn a massive participation of over 6000 athletes from 215 secondary schools, is scheduled to conclude on July 17th, 2024
