Abdallah Mubiru has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Tanzania Premier League club Mbeya City, NBS Sport can confirm.
Mubiru is believed to hold a verbal agreement with the Tanzanian club since Monday and will join on a two-year contract until 2024.
The former Police FC coach will replace compatriot Matia Lule who left the role at the end of last season. Lule is expected to join another club in Tanzania.
Mubiru has been linked to several other clubs in Uganda including giants KCCA and SC Villa over the past months, but there was a breakthrough in negotiations with Mbeya on Saturday last week.
NBS Sport also understands that Mubiru presented a long-term plan to Mbeya City executives during an online interview, explaining his preference regarding the team’s style of play which impressed the club’s hierarchy.
The former Uganda Cranes assistant coach jetted out of the country on Friday to finalise a deal, with Mbeya City expected to announce his appointment as early as next week.
Joseph Kiwanuka who has been serving as assistant coach to Lule is expected to stay on as part of Mubiru’s backroom staff as he makes plans to finalise his coaching staff in the due course.
Mubiru has been on a mini-sabbatical since leaving his former role at Police FC, a role he held for five years since his appointment in December 2016.
He guided the club to a Uganda Cup semi-final finish in 2021, as well as a sixth-place finish in the league.
Mbeya City, finished ninth in the league last season and will want to improve on that ahead of the new season that gets underway on August 17.
