FUBA National Basketball League 8-time defending champions City Oilers continued their decent run in the Basketball Africa League Qualifiers this afternoon by defeating Zambia’s Metro Magic 83-73 on Wednesday.
The Oilers have now won both of their East Division group B games, defeating COSPN 71-59 on Tuesday.
Oilers were fast out of the blocks, racing into an 8-0 lead inside the opening four minutes. However, a period of consistent turnovers allowed the Zambians back into the contest with the first quarter eventually ending 17-17.
Mandy Juruni’s side then put up a magnificent second quarter in which they limited Metro to just eight points while scoring 26 at the other end to head into the break leading 43-25.
In the third quarter, Oilers all but maintained their 18-point lead to head into the final 10 minutes leading 60-43.
The fourth was more competitive but Oilers managed to hold off Magic’s attempted comeback to win the contest 83-73.
Oilers who have now qualified for the semifinals, return to action tomorrow in their final group game when they take on Ferroviario de Beira of Mozambique.
