Proscovia Alako and wicket keeper Kevin Awino ensured the National Senior Women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls bowled off the inaugural Kenya Women’s International T20 series with victory.
The Pearls who elected to field after winning team captain Consy Aweko winning the toss edged hosts Kenya by 8 wickets in a match that saw it’s duration reduced to 10 Overs following the early downpour.
Awino, a not out posted 19 runs while Alako who was named the player of the match registered 27 from 21 balls.
Following Stephanie Nampiima’s dismissal with a solitary run, Immaculate Nakisuyi led Lawrence Ssematimba’s girls to the finish line as they won the game that had turned out to be nervy in the final Over.
Nakisuyi, also a not came out with 9 runs from 8 balls.
With the ball, pace bowlers Evelyn Anyipo and Sarah Akiteng each picked up a wicket as Uganda restricted their rivals to 54 runs.
The two teams were meeting for the first time since the Kwibuka memorial tournament held in Rwanda in June, a game that Kenya won by 3 wickets.
Uganda returns to action tomorrow against Qatar at the same grounds.
