As the rugby fraternity gears up for the final weekend of the 2023 Nile Special rugby premier league, the spotlight will be on the crunch tie at Legends grounds tomorrow at 4pm as 14-time league champions KOBs welcome 2018 winners Stanbic Black Pirates in the season decider.
KOBs were 30-25 victors in the reverse fixture played at the king’s park arena Bweyogerere in February, a game where center Ian Munyani scored a late try to secure the win.
The loss remains the only one suffered by Pirates this season as they also twice topped last season’s champions Platinum Credit Heathens to stay in the title running this season.
With both sides tied at 75 points and the league title on the line, Pirates captain Isaac Massanganzira believes it will be a close contest.
“We know what we have to do to win it. It will be a tough contest as we come up against the leaders but we are ready to do our best on the pitch.” Massanganzira told NBS Sport website.
For the leaders, they also share the same sentiments but feeling confident.
“We know what is at stake but it is better to go into the game on top than in second. Pirates are a very good team but we are confident in our abilities. Kobs player Mark Ssuna noted.
In the other games to complete match day 18, Rhinos will be away to Plascon Mongers, Toyota Buffaloes host Impis at Kyadondo, The Jinja derby will see Walukuba barbarians face Jinja hippos while holders Platinum Credit Heathens will be away to relegated Rams in the other contest.
